Badminton in Zambia is largely played in 4 provinces namely; Lusaka, Copperbelt, Central and Luapula provinces

Badminton is the world’s fastest rackets sport in the world. And Zambia has not been left behind in taking the sport very seriously. The Sport has produced fantastic players who have participated and represented Zambia both at National and international level. Not only the unsung heroes participate in these various international engagements but also competed favourably and have brought alot of honours to Zambia by winning all kinds of medals. Badminton is the leading overall sport in terms medals won at international tournaments than any other sport in Zambia. Records in the medals archives of Zambia can attest to this statement. Sadly it’s called a minor sport despite the pride the sport brings to the country. With the introduction of shuttle time in schools the game has been gaining popularity and pupils and students are taking keen interest in playing the sport. Badminton sport has became part of the physical education curriculum in many schools across the country.

Smash Badminton Academy was established in February 2016 at Lusaka Central Sports Club in Longacres Area. The team is led by professional coach and player, Donald Mabo who has more than 19 years of playing and coaching experience all over Zambia. He has coached students from complete Beginner to the National level students.

At the moment, we have over a Twenty Two students with 12 of intermediate and advanced youth athletes who compete in tournaments and many champions who have won the medals all over Zambia and the Southern Region of Africa. Our goal is to create healthy and disciplined kids that will lead to professional badminton players.

Recent Developments

The Government of Zambia has been promoting health living through full participation in various sports. Badminton has been identified has one sport that can be bring balance both socially and healthwise to people regardless of their age group. This move has attracted corporate social investments from the corporate world.
