
In April, 2019 I was elected as one of three representatives for the Badminton Confederation of Africa Athletes Commission Committee. It is worth stating that i went on to be elected again as the Chairman of the Commission among the (3) three representatives. The nomination was a great honour and a big landmark achievement for me and my country Zambia. I promised myself and the other athletes that I will do everything I can to support the development of this wonderful sport during my time in the commission and represent my country, my continent and my sport without taking advantage from the position.
The commission represents the athletes globally, communicates the views of the athletes to the officials and leads the growth and development of the sports.
We believe, the sport is all about the athletes and the athletes voices needs to be heard. We intend to be an official link between the players and the official bodies such as BCA and BWF. This will help the development of the sport worldwide but especially in Africa and put the people who often don’t have a voice into the focus of attention.
Our goals for the term are:
AFRICAN CIRCUIT EVENTS
- To actively monitor the standard of the African tournaments.
- To raise the standard of African Championships and other African tournaments to be comparable with tournaments around the world.
- To get regular feedback from players about tournaments.
- To work together with tournament organizers.
PLAYERS DEVELOPMENT
- To ensure the provision of long term sustainable opportunity for players, especially from less developed Member Associations without a high performance setup.
- The possibility to have permanent training and high performance centres in Africa.
- To organize regional projects to foster the awareness and growth of badminton.
OLYMPIC QUALIFICATION
- To actively work with players and Badminton Confederation of Africa to ensure the qualification of more Africans at Tokyo 2020 Olympics and further olympics. Youth Olympics and world Championships.
- To inform players about qualification rules for class events.
ATHLETE REPRESENTATION IN AFRICA
- To foster the representation of retired and present players in the growth and development of badminton in Africa.
- To encourage the increase in athlete representations in Member Associations.
SOCIAL MEDIA AND PROMOTION
- To constantly inform players on all activities and progress of the athlete commission.
- To work towards the live streaming and television coverage of African tournaments.
